Embracing the Suck!

Embracing the Suck: Facing Criticism and Thriving in Business and Life

I recently encountered a worrisome situation that made me question myself. After days of journaling and discussing it with mentors and fellow coaches, I realized it wasn’t me or my sales copy but potential clients triggered by what they read. Through meditation, journaling, and asking the same questions I would pose to my clients in Mindfulness & Mindset Mentoring and Soul Coaching®, the answers became clear. My sales copy was on the right track; as the saying goes, “You must be over the right target if you are taking incoming fire.” This experience has encouraged me to embrace the suck!

Introduction:

As a coach, entrepreneur, or professional in any field, one of the most challenging aspects of the job is dealing with criticism and strong reactions from potential clients, customers, or even colleagues. Unfortunately, receiving unkind, rude, or even threatening messages in response to your sales copy, services, or ideas is not uncommon. But remember, “You must be over the right target if you are taking incoming fire.” In this blog post, I’ll share how you can persevere, be resilient, and rise above negativity to maintain your emotional well-being in business and personal life.

1: Understanding the Source of Criticism:

It’s essential to remember that the criticism you face is often not about you but about the person giving it. People may react strongly to your sales copy, services, or approach because it triggers something within them, such as unresolved issues or fears. By understanding this, you can detach yourself from their negativity and focus on making a positive impact and getting paid well.

2: Embracing the Suck:

What do I mean by “Embracing the suck”? It means treating hardships as friends, not enemies, and driving on. It’s about accepting challenges that come your way and using them as opportunities for growth and learning. For example, when facing criticism or a visceral reaction from a potential client, customer, or colleague, embrace the experience as a chance to strengthen your resilience and improve your skills.

3: Developing a Resilient Mindset:

Using a growth mindset principles, you have the tools and strategies to help yourself, and others develop resilience. By practicing self-compassion, maintaining a positive attitude, and focusing on your purpose, you can rise above negativity and continue to serve your clients, customers, and colleagues effectively.

4: Responding to Criticism:

When faced with unkind or threatening messages, responding calmly and professionally is crucial. Rather than letting negativity affect you, use the opportunity to gain insight into the concerns or struggles of the person reacting. Of course, this doesn’t mean everyone will “vibe with you” – remember, not everyone is meant to be your ideal client, customer, or colleague.

5: Building a Supportive Community:

Surrounding yourself with a supportive community of fellow coaches, entrepreneurs, mentors, professionals, and friends can help you navigate the challenges of criticism and rejection. Share experiences, seek advice, and lean on the collective wisdom of those who have faced similar situations. This support system can provide the strength and perspective needed to rise above negativity and grow professionally and personally.

Conclusion:

Criticism and strong reactions from potential clients, customers, or colleagues can be disheartening. Still, it’s essential to remember that “you must be over the right target if you are taking incoming fire.” By embracing the suck, developing a resilient mindset, and cultivating a supportive community, you can persevere and continue to impact your business and personal life positively. Remember, it’s not about pleasing everyone but helping those who genuinely resonate with your message and approach – “your vibe attracts your tribe”!
